Exploring the Intimate side of Italy

Intimate Spaces

Tim’s early work authentically takes the viewer to one captured moment in time, highlighting the beauty in the most intimate space. In this series, Intimate Spaces, his focus was on Italy. During these days, he traveled with a backpack filled with medium format camera equipment and expensive film which made the shooting process very slow.  Each shot had to be more carefully crafted and hours were spent waiting for the ideal moment, when light and object were perfectly aligned. Exposure had to be perfect, and timing was critical because there was no digital editing later. When the perfect shot was captured, the dark room process ensued. A slow and technical process, the handling and caring for each individual moment caught on camera became an intimate experience between the photographer and his work

A Different Space

After much success with Intimate Spaces, Tim had a vision to create a series of interior spaces. Unhappy with what the real world had to offer, Tim began traveling to Italy again in search of a collection of images that he could use to create his own spaces. This was a turning point in his craft of art making. Creating these images, Tim found the confidence to work completely digitally. With the new unlimited possibilities of digital technology, Tim saw this craft and his art evolve. Suddenly, the shooting became easier, but the time added up in front of the computer screen, and years of darkroom training were followed by years of digital imaging training. While the silver process will always be a passion, Tim embraces the complete control that he has gained through digital imaging.
