Pentimento

While A Different Space is a study of interior spaces, Pentimento is a series of the exterior. Looking back at Intimate Spaces, you see a tight crop, forcing the viewer into an intimate scene. After shooting this way for many years, Tim wanted to expand his view and his art into something more. He began to shoot wider and at different angles, and made a collection of parts and pieces that were then used to create the surreal exterior views. Stitching together all the elements to create his own space, Tim gives careful balance of light and structure. At the time, he had a vision to shoot people and then drop them into these scenes, but as he started stitching together the backgrounds, he realized these spaces were intimate in their own way without the human element, and that was the start of the Pentimento series. Pentimento, like the older images though more complicated, forces the viewer into a tight and well balanced space.
